Términos & Condiciones
BlackSheepCampers ehf.
Vatnsmýrarvegur 10
101 Reykjavík
Iceland
These Terms & Conditions form part of every vehicle rental agreement with BlackSheepCampers.
By completing a booking, providing payment card details and accepting the Rental Agreement, the renter agrees to these Terms & Conditions.
The booking confirmation, Rental Agreement, vehicle inspection report and these Terms & Conditions together form the rental contract.
If a specific condition stated on the Rental Agreement or booking confirmation differs from these general Terms & Conditions, the specific condition stated on the Rental Agreement or booking confirmation shall apply.
1. Age requirement and driver’s licence
The renter and all additional drivers must be at least 20 years old.
A full and valid driver’s licence must have been held for at least 12 months before the start of the rental.
Only drivers registered on the Rental Agreement are permitted to drive the vehicle.
The renter is responsible for ensuring that every registered driver is legally entitled to drive in Iceland.
2. Rental period
The minimum rental charge is 72 hours.
A vehicle may be rented for a shorter period, but the minimum charge remains equivalent to 72 hours.
The vehicle must be returned at the date and time stated on the Rental Agreement.
If the vehicle is returned one hour or more after the agreed return time without prior approval from BlackSheepCampers, BlackSheepCampers may charge up to one additional rental day together with a late-return fee of ISK 10,000.
Further reasonable costs may be charged if the late return affects another confirmed rental or causes additional expenses.
3. Booking and payment
A valid payment card is required to guarantee a reservation.
The renter is responsible for all rental charges, selected extras, mandatory fees and other charges stated during the booking process or on the Rental Agreement.
Prices include Icelandic VAT where applicable.
Mandatory road tax or road-use charges are payable by the renter where stated during booking or on the Rental Agreement.
4. Cancellation policy
Cancellations made more than 48 hours before the scheduled pick-up time are eligible for a full refund.
In the event of a no-show or cancellation within 48 hours of the scheduled pick-up time, the full rental price may be charged.
5. Early return
The renter may return the vehicle before the agreed return date.
No refund is normally provided for unused rental days or partially used rental periods unless otherwise agreed in writing by BlackSheepCampers.
6. Payment card authorisation and security deposit
BlackSheepCampers may securely retain payment card details for the purpose of settling charges arising from the rental.
Where required, a security deposit or card pre-authorisation may be taken at the beginning of the rental.
Insurance package Security amount
Standard ISK 360,000
Premium ISK 120,000
Platinum No security deposit
A security deposit or pre-authorisation is security only. It does not represent the renter’s maximum liability for costs or damage excluded from insurance.
The renter authorises BlackSheepCampers to charge the payment card provided for legitimate costs arising from the rental, including:
vehicle damage;
applicable insurance deductibles;
missing or damaged equipment;
fuel;
parking charges;
tolls;
traffic fines;
cleaning charges;
late-return charges;
recovery and towing costs;
contractual fees resulting from prohibited use of the vehicle;
other costs permitted under these Terms & Conditions.
Some charges may only become known after the rental has ended.
This card authorisation remains valid for up to six months after the rental ends.
7. Pick-up and return
The standard BlackSheepCampers pick-up and return location is:
BSÍ Bus Terminal
Vatnsmýrarvegur 10
101 Reykjavík
Alternative locations may apply when specifically stated in the booking confirmation or Rental Agreement.
BlackSheepCampers operates a self-service pick-up and return system.
The renter must follow the instructions provided, including instructions concerning keys and lockboxes.
Any lockbox used for self-service pick-up must be removed from the vehicle immediately after retrieving the key and handled according to the instructions provided.
8. Vehicle type and substitution
BlackSheepCampers will make reasonable efforts to provide the vehicle category reserved.
If the reserved vehicle is unavailable, BlackSheepCampers may provide a vehicle of a similar or higher category.
A specific make, model, engine type or fuel type is not guaranteed unless expressly confirmed in writing.
9. Travelling abroad
Taking a BlackSheepCampers vehicle outside Iceland is prohibited unless BlackSheepCampers has provided prior written permission.
10. Fuel
The fuel level at pick-up will be recorded on the vehicle inspection report or Rental Agreement.
The vehicle must be returned with the same fuel level.
If the vehicle is returned with less fuel, BlackSheepCampers may charge ISK 300 per litre for missing fuel plus an ISK 2,500 refuelling service fee.
If the vehicle is supplied with less than a full tank, the renter only needs to return it with the same fuel level as supplied.
This does not apply where prepaid fuel has been purchased.
11. Vehicle condition and accessories
The renter is responsible for the vehicle and its equipment from the start of the rental until the vehicle has been returned.
The vehicle, keys, lockboxes, camping equipment, tools and all other accessories must be returned in substantially the same condition as received, allowing for normal wear and tear.
Missing or damaged accessories may be charged at their reasonable replacement or repair cost.
12. Cleaning and smoking
Normal cleaning after normal use is included.
A vehicle returned excessively dirty may be subject to an additional cleaning fee of ISK 15,000.
Smoking and vaping are prohibited inside all BlackSheepCampers vehicles.
Evidence of smoking may result in a cleaning charge of ISK 35,000.
Additional reasonable costs may be charged if specialist cleaning or repair is required because of the renter’s actions.
13. General use of the vehicle
The vehicle must be driven carefully and in accordance with Icelandic law, weather conditions, road conditions and instructions provided by BlackSheepCampers.
The renter must not:
allow an unregistered driver to operate the vehicle;
drive while under the influence of alcohol, drugs or other impairing substances;
drive off marked roads;
drive on closed roads;
drive on beaches, glaciers, frozen lakes or other prohibited areas;
use the vehicle for racing or speed testing;
transport passengers for payment;
lend or sublet the vehicle;
make repairs or modifications without prior approval;
intentionally or recklessly misuse the vehicle.
Damage resulting from prohibited, reckless or grossly negligent use is not covered by insurance or liability waivers.
14. F-roads and highland roads
Only vehicles specifically approved by BlackSheepCampers for F-road and highland-road use may be driven on F-roads.
A vehicle being four-wheel drive or all-wheel drive does not automatically mean it is approved for every F-road.
Whether a vehicle is approved for F-road use is determined by its vehicle description, booking confirmation, Rental Agreement and any instructions provided by BlackSheepCampers.
The renter is responsible for checking road conditions and road closures before entering F-roads or highland areas.
Driving a vehicle that is not approved for F-roads on an F-road, driving on a closed road, driving off-road, or deliberately taking a vehicle onto a road that is clearly unsuitable for that vehicle is prohibited.
If such prohibited use is identified and can reasonably be documented, a contractual fee of €500 may be charged.
The €500 fee is separate from any damage, towing, recovery or other costs caused by the prohibited use.
Any damage resulting from driving a vehicle on a road for which it is not approved is not covered by insurance or liability waivers. The renter is responsible for the full reasonable cost of such damage and related recovery expenses.
Approved 4×4 vehicles remain covered by the applicable insurance package while being used normally on open, marked roads for which the vehicle is approved, subject to all insurance exclusions in these Terms & Conditions.
15. Rivers and water crossings
No BlackSheepCampers insurance or liability waiver covers water damage.
This includes damage caused by driving through:
rivers;
streams;
flooded roads;
pools of water;
standing water;
any other body of water.
This exclusion applies even when the vehicle is a 4×4 and is otherwise approved for F-road use.
The renter bears the full cost of water damage and related recovery.
16. Accidents and damage
The renter must notify BlackSheepCampers as soon as reasonably possible of any accident, collision or damage.
Where another vehicle or person is involved, the renter must obtain the relevant details and complete an accident report where appropriate.
The police must be contacted where required by Icelandic law or where there is injury, significant damage, uncertainty about liability or another party refuses to provide information.
The renter must report damage regardless of which insurance package was purchased.
Failure to report damage may affect insurance protection where the failure prevents BlackSheepCampers or its insurer from properly investigating the incident.
17. Breakdown and mechanical failure
If the vehicle experiences a mechanical failure that is not caused by the renter, BlackSheepCampers will make reasonable efforts to arrange repair or provide a comparable replacement vehicle.
The renter must contact BlackSheepCampers or its designated roadside assistance provider before arranging repairs.
BlackSheepCampers is not responsible for unauthorised repair costs.
If the vehicle cannot be used for more than 24 consecutive hours because of a mechanical failure for which the renter is not responsible, BlackSheepCampers will refund the applicable rental charge for the affected full rental day or days.
Insurance and Liability
18. General insurance principles
Mandatory third-party liability and accident insurance are included as required by Icelandic law.
BlackSheepCampers also offers damage waivers and protection packages that reduce the renter’s financial responsibility for certain types of damage.
A deductible is the maximum amount the renter is responsible for per covered incident.
The deductible is not an automatic damage charge.
For covered damage, the renter is responsible for the reasonable repair or replacement cost up to the applicable deductible.
If the actual repair or replacement cost is lower than the deductible, only the lower amount will be charged.
Different deductibles apply to different types of damage.
Separate incidents may each be subject to a separate deductible.
19. Standard Insurance / Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)
Collision Damage Waiver is included in the standard rental price.
For damage covered by CDW, the renter’s maximum liability is:
ISK 360,000 per incident.
CDW does not cover damage excluded under these Terms & Conditions.
20. Premium Insurance Package
Premium Insurance includes:
Super Collision Damage Waiver (SCDW)
Gravel Protection (GP)
For damage covered by SCDW, the renter’s maximum liability is:
ISK 120,000 per incident.
For damage covered by Gravel Protection, the renter’s maximum liability is:
ISK 45,000 per incident.
The ISK 120,000 SCDW deductible and the ISK 45,000 Gravel Protection deductible apply to different types of damage.
21. Super Collision Damage Waiver (SCDW)
SCDW reduces the renter’s liability for damage otherwise covered by CDW from ISK 360,000 to:
ISK 120,000 per incident.
SCDW is included in Premium and Platinum packages.
SCDW does not cover damage excluded under these Terms & Conditions unless another protection specifically covers that damage.
22. Gravel Protection (GP)
Gravel Protection covers accidental damage caused when gravel, stones or rocks are thrown onto the rental vehicle during normal driving.
GP includes qualifying gravel damage to:
windscreen;
headlights;
exterior mirrors;
bonnet/hood;
exterior body panels.
The applicable liability is:
Protection Maximum liability
Without GP Full cost
Premium ISK 45,000 per incident
Platinum ISK 0
GP does not cover tires, wheels or the underside of the vehicle.
GP does not cover damage caused by prohibited or reckless driving.
Sand and ash damage caused by material being blown by the wind is not covered by GP.
23. Platinum Insurance Package
Platinum Insurance reduces the deductible to ISK 0 for damage covered by the protections included in the Platinum package.
This includes covered damage under:
CDW/SCDW;
Gravel Protection;
Theft Protection;
Sand and Ash Protection.
Platinum does not mean that every type of damage is insured.
Insurance exclusions continue to apply.
Damage such as water damage, underside damage, tires and wheels, and damage caused by prohibited or grossly negligent use remains the renter’s responsibility.
24. Theft Protection
Theft Protection covers theft of the rental vehicle subject to the applicable insurance conditions.
Loss or theft resulting from gross negligence may not be covered.
25. Sand and Ash Protection (SAAP)
Sand and Ash Protection covers qualifying exterior damage caused by sand, ash, pumice and similar earth material being blown onto the vehicle.
This may include damage to paintwork, windows, lights, exterior plastic and other exterior surfaces.
Where SAAP applies, the deductible for covered SAAP damage is ISK 0.
26. Damage not covered by insurance or waivers
Unless expressly stated otherwise, insurance and liability waivers do not cover:
tires or wheels;
underside or chassis damage;
suspension damage caused by inappropriate driving;
water damage;
river crossings;
damage caused by wrong fuel or fluids;
damage caused by off-road driving;
damage caused by driving on closed roads;
damage caused by using a vehicle on a road for which it is not approved;
intentional damage;
gross negligence or reckless behaviour;
damage while driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs;
damage caused by an unregistered driver;
racing or test driving;
damage caused by wind catching a door;
roof damage caused by standing, sitting or climbing on the vehicle;
burns or smoking-related damage;
damage caused by sea water;
sand and ash damage where SAAP does not apply;
gravel damage where GP does not apply.
For damage not covered by insurance or a waiver, the renter is responsible for the full reasonable cost of repair or replacement.
27. Tires, wheels and underside
No insurance package, including Platinum, covers damage to tires, wheels or the underside of the vehicle.
The renter bears the full reasonable cost of such damage.
28. Recovery and towing
If a vehicle must be recovered or transported because of an incident for which the renter is responsible, BlackSheepCampers may charge:
ISK 400 per kilometre, with a minimum charge of ISK 45,000.
External towing, recovery, ferry or specialist costs may also be charged where reasonably incurred.
Fines and Other Charges
29. Parking, tolls and traffic charges
The renter is responsible for all parking charges, tolls, traffic violations, speeding fines and other charges arising from use of the vehicle during the rental.
Where BlackSheepCampers receives or has to process a parking charge, fine, toll or official inquiry on behalf of the renter, an administration fee of up to ISK 4,500 may be charged in addition to the underlying charge.
Where a parking event or toll is issued by a third-party operator, disputes regarding whether the charge was correctly issued should normally be raised directly with that operator.
30. Post-rental charges
Some costs may only become known after the rental ends.
These may include:
parking charges;
tolls;
traffic fines;
damage;
missing or damaged equipment;
fuel;
recovery costs;
contractual fees;
other costs directly arising from the rental.
BlackSheepCampers may charge valid post-rental costs to the payment card provided for the rental for up to six months after the rental ends.
31. Personal property
BlackSheepCampers is not responsible for personal belongings left in or transported in the vehicle except where liability cannot legally be excluded.
If an item is found after the rental, BlackSheepCampers may arrange its return at the renter’s expense.
A handling fee of at least ISK 4,500 may apply in addition to shipping costs.
Obligations of BlackSheepCampers
32. Vehicle delivery
BlackSheepCampers will make reasonable efforts to provide a clean and roadworthy vehicle at the agreed time.
If the reserved category is unavailable, a comparable or higher category vehicle may be substituted.
If BlackSheepCampers cannot provide a vehicle within three hours of the agreed pick-up time for reasons within its control, the rental charge attributable to that rental day may be refunded.
33. Vehicle condition
BlackSheepCampers is responsible for maintaining the vehicle in a condition that meets applicable registration and safety requirements.
Existing damage recorded before the start of the rental will not be charged to the renter.
The renter should review the vehicle inspection report and notify BlackSheepCampers of any significant discrepancy as soon as reasonably possible after pick-up.
General Provisions
34. Changes and extensions
Changes or extensions to a rental require approval from BlackSheepCampers.
Any agreed change should be confirmed in writing.
35. Repossession of the vehicle
BlackSheepCampers may recover or repossess the vehicle where reasonably necessary, including where:
the vehicle has not been returned when due;
the vehicle appears abandoned;
the vehicle is being used illegally;
the vehicle is being used in serious breach of the Rental Agreement;
continued use presents a significant safety or financial risk.
Where the circumstances are the renter’s responsibility, reasonable recovery costs may be charged.
36. Vehicle data and evidence
BlackSheepCampers may use information reasonably available to it when investigating damage, prohibited use or disputes.
This may include:
Rental Agreements;
inspection reports;
photographs;
GPS or vehicle tracking information;
vehicle telemetry;
odometer information;
correspondence with the renter;
records from parking or road operators.
Personal data will be processed in accordance with applicable privacy and data-protection law.
37. Amendments to these Terms & Conditions
BlackSheepCampers may update these Terms & Conditions for future rentals.
The version applicable to a rental is the version in force and made available to the renter when the rental agreement is entered into.
Changes made later do not apply retrospectively to an existing rental.
38. Governing law
The Rental Agreement and these Terms & Conditions are governed by Icelandic law.
Nothing in these Terms & Conditions removes mandatory consumer rights available under Icelandic law.
The parties should first attempt to resolve any disagreement directly.
Eligible consumer disputes may be submitted to the relevant Icelandic consumer dispute resolution body.
Where court jurisdiction may lawfully be agreed, disputes may be brought before the District Court of Reykjanes, Iceland.
39. Entire agreement
The booking confirmation, Rental Agreement, vehicle inspection report, selected insurance package and these Terms & Conditions together constitute the rental agreement between BlackSheepCampers and the renter.
If any provision is found invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to apply to the extent permitted by law.
