Dacia Duster 4x4 in a remote Icelandic landscape

WHY 4×4

Iceland is not a front-wheel-drive country.

Gravel roads, sudden wind, wet basalt and a winter that lasts half the year. A 4×4 with ground clearance keeps you moving on all of it, and a compact one is easy to park at campsites, in towns and at trailheads.

Grip when the weather turns

Four-wheel drive and good clearance for gravel, wind and snow – the Duster is the car Icelanders drive in winter.

Highlands in summer

Both Dusters are approved for open F-roads, so Landmannalaugar, Kjölur and the interior are on the table from July.

Easy to drive and park

Shorter than a family saloon. No reversing camera needed, no campsite too small, normal fuel consumption.

Your bed travels with you

Sleep inside the car or in the rooftop tent. One rental covers transport and accommodation.

THREE CAMPERS

Choose your 4×4.

Two Dacia Duster setups and one electric SUV. All three are picked up self-service at our base next to Keflavík Airport.

Dacia Duster – Sleep in the Back

Bed for two inside the car (190 × 100–135 cm), seats five by day. Manual 4×4, approved for open F-roads. The simplest camper we have and our best seller.

Dacia Duster – Rooftop Tent

The same Duster with a rooftop tent, so it sleeps four: two inside, two in the tent (210 × 120 cm). For families and friends travelling together. F-road approved.

Leapmotor C10 AWD – Electric

All-wheel-drive electric SUV with a bed for two, Camp Mode heating all night on battery and a 230V outlet. For the Ring Road and gravel roads – not approved for F-roads.

F-ROADS

The highlands, done properly.

F-roads are Iceland’s mountain tracks: unpaved, often steep, sometimes with unbridged rivers. They open from late June or July and close again in September.

✓

Both Dacia Duster campers may drive F-roads that are officially open.

✓

Some roads are always off-limits for our cars, including F249, F210, F26 and F88.

✓

The electric C10 stays on paved and normal gravel roads.

!

No insurance covers water damage – plan routes without river crossings. Off-road driving is illegal in Iceland.

WINTER

Studded tyres from 1 November to 15 April.

Every Duster runs on studded winter tyres through the winter and the electric C10 on non-studded Continental VikingContact 8, the winner of the 2026 Nordic winter tyre test. A 220V heater is included for campsites with electricity, and the C10 heats itself in Camp Mode. Winter is also when a 4×4 camper is cheapest – and when the northern lights are out.

FAQ

4×4 camper rental in Iceland – questions

The things people ask before they book.

Do I need a 4×4 camper in Iceland?

For the Ring Road in summer a 2WD works, but Iceland’s gravel roads, wind and sudden weather are much easier in a 4×4 with ground clearance. From October to April we would not recommend anything else, and F-roads in the highlands legally require a 4×4.

Which campers can drive on F-roads?

Both Dacia Duster campers – Sleep in the Back and Rooftop Tent – are approved for F-roads that are officially open, normally from late June or July until September. The electric Leapmotor C10 is not approved for F-roads. River crossings are never covered by insurance.

Are the campers ready for winter?

Yes. The Dusters have studded winter tyres from 1 November to 15 April, the C10 has Continental VikingContact 8 winter tyres, and every camper has a 220V heater for campsites with electricity. The C10 also heats itself overnight in Camp Mode.

How many people can sleep in a Duster camper?

Two inside the car on a 190 × 100–135 cm mattress. With the rooftop tent version, two more sleep on the roof in a 210 × 120 cm tent, so four in total.

What is included in the price?

Unlimited kilometres, Collision Damage Waiver, 24/7 roadside assistance, mattress and sheets, a 220V heater, the free airport shuttle and a free additional driver. Sleeping bags, pillows, towels, kitchen kit, chairs, table and cooling box are free – you choose them when you book.

Where do I pick up the camper?

At our self-service base at Flugvellir 15, 1.8 km from Keflavík Airport. Our free shuttle collects you at Arrivals and the drive takes three minutes. You get the lockbox code and instructions before pickup, so it works at any hour.

How old do I need to be?

Drivers must be at least 20 and have held a full licence for 12 months. A second driver is free.

Your 4×4 is waiting three minutes from the airport.
