F-road campers for Iceland’s highlands.
Both Dacia Duster campers are approved for open F-roads. Here is what that means, where you can and cannot go, and how to plan a safe highland trip.
Which campers can drive F-roads
The Duster Sleep in the Back and the Duster with rooftop tent are approved for F-roads when the roads are officially open. The electric Leapmotor C10 is not approved for F-roads or the highlands.
When F-roads are open
Most F-roads open from late June or July and close again in September, depending on snow and conditions. Always check umferdin.is for road status and safetravel.is for alerts on the morning you drive. Driving on a closed road is never allowed.
Roads that are always off-limits
Some routes are too demanding for any of our vehicles, whatever the conditions: F249 (Þórsmörk), F210, F233 (Mælifell), F88, F26 (Sprengisandur), F578, F622, F337, F910, F980, F903 and F909.
Rivers and water
Some F-roads include unbridged rivers. No insurance or waiver covers water damage, even in a 4×4 approved for F-roads, so plan routes that avoid river crossings. Off-road driving is illegal in Iceland.
Plan your highland trip
Read our F-road guide before you go, keep a fuel buffer and tell someone your route. Pickup is self-service at Keflavík Airport, so you can head for the highlands as soon as you land.
