Standard, Premium or Platinum — what each package covers, the self-risk, and what no insurance covers.
Every BlackSheep camper comes with the insurance required by Icelandic law and a Collision Damage Waiver. When you book, you choose how much of the remaining risk you want to carry yourself: Standard, Premium or Platinum. The current price for each package is shown in the booking step.

The self-risk (deductible) is the most you pay per covered incident. It is not an automatic charge: if a covered repair costs less, you only pay the actual cost.
What each protection covers
Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)
Included in every rental. Limits your liability for collision damage to the vehicle to ISK 360,000 per incident.
Super Collision Damage Waiver (SCDW)
Part of Premium and Platinum. Lowers the collision self-risk to ISK 120,000 (Premium) or ISK 0 (Platinum).
Gravel Protection (GP)
Many Icelandic roads are gravel, and passing cars throw stones. GP covers stone and gravel damage to the windscreen, headlights, mirrors, bonnet and body panels. Without GP you pay the full cost of such damage.
Sand & Ash Protection (SAAP)
Only in Platinum. Strong winds in the south of Iceland can blast sand, ash and pumice against a car and strip paint and glass within minutes. SAAP covers that exterior damage with ISK 0 self-risk.
Theft Protection (TP)
Covers theft of the vehicle, subject to the insurance conditions.
What no package covers
Even Platinum does not mean that everything is covered. These are always your responsibility:
- Tyres, wheels and the underside of the vehicle
- Water damage, including river crossings and flooded roads
- Damage from off-road driving or driving on closed roads
- Damage from driving on our forbidden F-roads, such as F249 Þórsmörk (full list)
- Wind catching a door and bending it
- Wrong fuel, intentional damage, or driving under the influence
- Damage caused by a driver who is not registered on the rental agreement

Which package should I choose?
- Standard suits short trips on paved roads, if you are comfortable with a higher self-risk.
- Premium is the sensible middle ground for the Ring Road and its gravel sections.
- Platinum gives the most peace of mind, especially in the south and east where sandstorms happen, on F-roads, and in winter.

If something happens
Report any damage or accident to us as soon as possible, whatever package you have. If another vehicle or person is involved, call the police on 112 when required and fill in an accident report. Roadside assistance is available 24/7 through 2400.is.
