The car Icelanders drive, turned into a camper.
We have run Dacia Dusters since 2016 because nothing else in this size does Iceland as well. Four-wheel drive and real ground clearance for gravel, wind and snow, a footprint shorter than a family saloon, and a cabin that turns into a dry, warm bed in a minute. One rental covers your transport and your accommodation.
Grip and clearance where it matters
Permanent-ready 4×4 with 21 cm of ground clearance. Washboard gravel, wet basalt, side wind on the Ring Road – the Duster shrugs it off.
Small outside, big inside
Easy to park at campsites, in Reykjavík and at trailheads. Five seats by day, a full-length bed by night, and your luggage still fits.
Highlands in summer
Approved for F-roads that are officially open, so Landmannalaugar, Kjölur and Kerlingarfjöll are on the table from July. The electric C10 cannot go there – the Duster can.
Low running costs
Manual gearbox, modest consumption and normal fuel stations everywhere. On a two-week Ring Road trip that difference adds up.
Sleep in the Back, or add the rooftop tent.
Same Duster, two ways to sleep. Both come with the mattress, sheets, 220V heater, unlimited kilometres and CDW. Pick the one that fits your group.
Dacia Duster – Sleep in the Back
For two. Fold the rear seats, roll out the mattress and the back of the car is your bedroom: about 190 cm long, 100 cm wide at the tailgate and widening to around 135 cm. A 220V heater for campsites with electricity and plenty of room for bags under the bed. Our simplest camper and the one most people book.

For three or four. The same car with a rooftop tent on top: two sleep inside, two sleep upstairs on a 210 × 130 cm mattress with about 150 cm of headroom when the tent is open. It sets up in a couple of minutes and folds flat on the roof while you drive. The favourite of families and groups of friends.
See the rooftop tent camper →Prefer an automatic or electric?
The Duster is manual only. If you want an automatic 4WD that also sleeps four, the new BYD Seal U with rooftop tent arrives on 1 April 2027. If you want to drive electric on the Ring Road, the all-wheel-drive Leapmotor C10 sleeps two and heats itself all night in Camp Mode.

How two – or four – actually sleep in a Duster.
People ask about the mattress more than anything else, so here are the real numbers. The bed inside is the same in both setups; the rooftop tent adds a second one upstairs.
Read our Duster camping guide →Inside: approx. 190 cm long, 100 cm wide at the tailgate, widening to around 135 cm – two adults up to about 190 cm sleep comfortably.
The mattress and a fitted sheet are always in the car; sleeping bags, pillows and towels are free when you book.
Rooftop tent: approx. 210 × 130 cm with about 150 cm of headroom when open, for two. Sets up in a couple of minutes at the campsite.
By day the seats go back up: five seats, a normal boot and the tent closed flat on the roof.
Both Dusters are approved for the highlands.
F-roads are Iceland’s mountain tracks: unpaved, often steep, sometimes with unbridged rivers. They open from late June or July and close again in September. Both Duster campers may drive F-roads that are officially open.
Approved for every F-road that is officially open, in both setups.
A handful of the roughest tracks are always off-limits for our cars – the list is in your rental agreement and in our F-road guide.
Check umferdin.is and safetravel.is on the morning you drive. Opening dates change every year with the snow.
No insurance covers water damage – plan routes without river crossings. Off-road driving is illegal in Iceland.

The Duster is the smallest car we would send onto an F-road, and the largest we would want to park at the trailhead afterwards.

Studded tyres from 1 November to 15 April.
Every Duster runs on studded winter tyres through the winter, and a 220V heater is included for campsites with electricity. Four-wheel drive, clearance and a short wheelbase make it one of the easiest cars to drive on snow and ice in Iceland. Winter is also when a Duster camper is cheapest – and when the northern lights are out.
Everything you need is already in the car.
No hidden extras at pickup. Choose the free camping gear you want when you book and it is waiting in the Duster.

Dacia Duster camper in Iceland – questions
The things people ask before they book a Duster.
Is the Dacia Duster a real 4×4?
Yes. Our Dusters have four-wheel drive with a lockable 4WD mode and about 21 cm of ground clearance. It is the car most Icelanders choose for exactly these roads, and it is approved for F-roads that are officially open.
Is the Duster camper automatic or manual?
All our Dusters are manual. If you need an automatic, the new BYD Seal U – an automatic 4WD that sleeps four with a rooftop tent – is available from 1 April 2027, and the electric Leapmotor C10 is automatic too.
How big is the bed in the Duster?
About 190 cm long, 100 cm wide at the tailgate and widening to around 135 cm. Two adults sleep comfortably. The rooftop tent adds a second bed of about 210 × 130 cm with roughly 150 cm of headroom when open.
Can four people travel in a Duster camper?
Yes, with the Sleep in the Back & Rooftop Tent setup: two sleep inside and two in the tent on the roof. By day there are five seats. With Sleep in the Back only, the camper sleeps two.
Can I drive the Duster on F-roads?
Yes, both Duster setups are approved for F-roads that are officially open, normally from late June or July until September. A few of the roughest tracks are always excluded, and river crossings are never covered by insurance – plan routes without them.
Is the Duster warm enough in winter?
A 220V heater is included for campsites with electricity, and the Duster warms up fast once you are driving. Studded winter tyres are fitted from 1 November to 15 April. Bring or borrow a warm sleeping bag – ours are free when you book.
How much does it cost to rent a Dacia Duster camper in Iceland?
Prices depend on the season and are shown live for your dates in the search above. Winter and shoulder season are cheapest, July and August highest. Unlimited kilometres, CDW, the airport shuttle and the camping gear are included, and you pay 5% less when you pay in full.
Where do I pick up the Duster?
At our self-service base at Flugvellir 15, 1.8 km from Keflavík Airport. Our free shuttle collects you at Arrivals and the drive takes three minutes. You get the lockbox code and instructions before pickup, so it works at any hour.
How old do I need to be?
Drivers must be at least 20 and have held a full licence for 12 months. A second driver is free.
