Booking & Payment
How do I book a camper?
You can book directly on our website, BlackSheepCampers.is. Select your camper, travel dates, and any extras before completing your reservation.
Do I need to pay a deposit?
No, we do not require a deposit. However, full payment must be made before pickup.
If I book through Northbound, how does the payment work?
Northbound requires a 15% payment at the time of booking. The remaining balance must be paid on our website at least 48 hours before pickup.
Can I cancel my reservation?
Yes, our cancellation policy depends on when you cancel. Check our Terms & Conditions on the website for details.
Camper Features & Extras
What is included?
- Comfortable mattress, 2 warm sleeping bags, two pillows, all sheets, and even 2 bath towels
- Traveling stove, kettle, pots, pan, and a coffee press
- Two chairs and a table (not during winter season)
- Cutting knife and board
- Cutlery, cups, and dishes
- Dishwashing soap, rag, sponge, and a towel
- Cooling box
- From the 1st of November until the 15th of April, all of our campers will have a 220v heater that you can plug in at any given camping site.
Can I rent extra equipment?
Yes! You can add extras like:
- Unlimited WiFi (with hotspot)
- Additional Driver
- Extra Bedding Set (for more than 2 people)
- 400L Roof Rack (for extra storage)
- Portable Jump Starter & Air Compressor
- Android Tablet with Google Maps & GPS
Does the camper come with WiFi?
WiFi is not included by default, but you can rent an Unlimited WiFi device with a personal hotspot for unlimited internet access.
Do you provide GPS?
You can use Google Maps on your phone or rent an Android Tablet with Google Maps & GPS for navigation.
Driver & License Requirements
What is the minimum age to rent a camper?
You must be at least 20 years old to rent a camper from us.
What kind of driver’s license do I need?
We accept all valid foreign driver’s licenses as long as they are readable in English or use Latin characters. If not, you will need an International Driver’s License or an official translation.
Can I add an additional driver?
Yes! You can add an Additional Driver to share the driving. This can be selected as an extra when booking.
Driving in Iceland
Do I need to worry about gravel roads?
Yes, many roads in Iceland are gravel, and gravel damage is common. We recommend adding Gravel Protection insurance to avoid high repair costs.
What is Sand & Ash Protection, and do I need it?
Iceland’s strong winds can blow volcanic ash and sand, causing expensive paint and window damage. Sand & Ash Protection is highly recommended, especially for travel in spring and fall.
Are there toll roads in Iceland?
The Vaðlaheiðargöng Tunnel near Akureyri is the only toll road in Iceland. The toll must be paid online within 24 hours of passing through.
Can I drive on F-roads (highland roads)?
Only 4×4 campers are allowed on F-roads. You cannot drive regular campers on these roads.
Fuel & Maintenance
What kind of fuel do the campers use?
It depends on the model. Your rental agreement will specify if your camper uses diesel or gasoline.
Do I need to return the camper with a full tank?
Yes, you must return the camper with the same fuel level as when picked up.
What happens if I get a flat tire?
You are responsible for tire damage, but we provide a spare tire and tools. If you need help, our 24/7 roadside assistance is available. For road assistance, call +354-419-2400 or visit www.2400.is.

How does BlackSheep Campers rental work?
We are a 100% self-service camper rental. Your camper will be waiting for you at BSI Bus Terminal when you arrive, and all check-in information will be sent to your email before your trip. This means no waiting, no counters, and no hassle—just pick up your camper and start your Icelandic adventure!

Can I sleep anywhere in Iceland with the camper?
No, wild camping is not allowed. You must stay at designated campsites.
Are campsites included in the rental?
No, but Iceland has many great campsites. You can find locations here or Google Maps.
Can I take the camper outside Iceland?
No, our campers cannot be taken off the island
Pickup & Return
Where do I pick up my camper?
Your camper will be waiting for you at BSI Bus Terminal in Reykjavík. All check-in details and instructions will be sent to your email before your trip.
How do I check in?
We are a fully self-service rental, so there is no counter check-in. You will receive an email with all necessary information, including how to access your camper.
What time can I pick up and return the camper?
Pickup and return times are flexible and stated in your booking confirmation. If you need special arrangements, contact us in advance.
Can I return the camper outside business hours?
Yes, since we are a self-service rental, you can return the camper at any time by following the return instructions in your email.
